Amazon Employee? Data for Sale – $180 for Access to Internal Information

"Selling Amazon Account Data by Employees: Fueling a Black Market Industry"

Account suspension is a constant concern for sellers on Amazon, fearing their accounts might be suspended out of the blue one day. Once an account gets frozen, driven by survival instincts, they frantically seek so-called service providers to apply for account reinstatement.

This has given rise to a black market industry within Amazon.

01 Selling Data by Amazon Employees

Assisting third-party sellers in recovering their accounts has become a lucrative business, as the only way for merchants to restore their accounts is by admitting and rectifying issues or providing sufficient evidence to prove their innocence. However, this process is often costly, time-consuming, and filled with challenges.

It's reported that in a Telegram group called "Amazon Magic," sellers can pay between $200 to $400 to gain access to Amazon's internal staff, purchase specific information screenshots about account suspensions, remove negative reviews, and obtain information about competitors.

This Telegram group boasts over 13,000 members and is not the only one of its kind. Similar groups offering these services can also be found on Telegram, WeChat, WhatsApp, and Facebook platforms.

Illegal brokers act as intermediaries between sellers and employees, establishing connections with internal personnel through platforms like LinkedIn, and then bribing them to acquire information.

It can be seen from the screenshots that you can get internal screenshots of Amazon sellers for $180, 1-2 a week. The review service is priced at $0.50. The scary thing is that it also provides services to attack competitors' listings.

An internal screenshot service, Facebook claims, "can drill down into your seller account and let you see how Amazon employees view your account and how it's performing".

02 Amazon's zero-tolerance attitude

The issue of certain employees taking bribes is nothing new for Amazon.

In 2018, people familiar with the matter revealed that Amazon employees sold internal data and other confidential information to merchants operating online stores on the website through middlemen. Middlemen can use social apps like WeChat to contact Amazon employees, offer them cash transfers, gain inside information or remove negative reviews.

In addition, Amazon's internal employees will be "required a minimum of five reviews" for each transaction, and related services will be paid ranging from $80 to more than $2,000. Amazon employees also restore banned accounts for sellers, providing sales information, such as keywords customers search for products and other seller habit data.

In 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice sued six Amazon employees for bribery and fraud in exchange for unfair advantages in Amazon's three-party seller marketplace.

In response, Amazon said it has an internal team responsible for threat analysis and responding to suspicious behavior, including a team dedicated to investigating employees suspected of leaking data. It also has systems in place to detect suspicious behavior, such as improper access to classified data, and to investigate these activities and share information with law enforcement agencies.

"Amazon does not allow fraud, and we will continue to do everything we can to protect our store and hold bad actors accountable," Amazon spokeswoman Christy Distefano said in an email.

In fact, we all know that the Amazon platform is highly competitive, and sellers use various methods to promote sales growth. But the way of long-term operation is to abide by the rules of the platform and operate in compliance.
